How to apply SMS branding to your Sematime account

The 'sender name' of your messages determines whether a parent will open and read your message or they will discard it like hot porridge for suspicion of being a spam or marketing message. It is, therefore, important for your school to ensure that every message sent out to the parents bears the name of the school as the sender.

The school needs to make an application to each of the mobile network providers(Safaricom, Airtel, et al) requesting to approve your sender name and reserve it for use only by your institution. It is this process, that we here at Sematime, call SMS branding.

Here are the requirements:
SMS branding authorization letter
Fill in the attached SMS branding letter, ensure it is printed on the school letterhead, is duly signed and stamped. The name requested for should not exceed 11 characters and must not have spacing or special characters. Example of valid names: ABC_BOYS, AbcSchool etc

Your school registration certificate
Ensure the certificate is well scanned to guarantee legibility and ease of verification.

Once your documentation is ready, scan and combine your authorization letter with the school registration certificate into one PDF document. Login to your Sematime account and click on 'Settings' on the menu then go to 'Sms branding'.

Drag-and-drop your scanned SMS branding letter and school certificate onto the dotted area below or click the 'Select file' to choose the from your computer file system.

Upon receipt of your documents, our team will review them to ascertain that they meet the requirements and if all is fine you will receive a follow up email with further instructions on how to make payments.
