How to setup the new KCSE 2023 subject grouping & grading rules

The Kenya National Examinations Council(KNEC) introduced a new subject grouping system for the KCSE 2023 cohort that was meant to increase the number of students qualifying for universities, Diploma and TVET training at Certificate and Artisan levels.

Previously there were five mandatory subjects across three cluster groups - Mathematics, English, Kiswahili, two sciences and one humanity. In the new grading system that will be applied to the 2023 KCSE examination, the only two mandatory subjects will be Mathematics and one language, (English, Kiswahili or Kenyan Sign Language). In addition to the two mandatory subjects – the Kenya National Examinations Council will consider any other five best 9 performed subjects. CS Machogu speech exam season launch 2023

To enable the new subject group settings in your account, go to the ' Settings' section, choose ' Subjects' and then open the ' Subject Grouping' tab as shown below. Start by deleting all the previously set subject groups since they are using the old grading rules. Once done, click ' + New Subject Group' to begin.

You only need to have 3 subject groups to accomplish the new KCSE 2023 grading rules:
Group 1 - has Mathematics only and it's grading rule is ' Pick All'
Group 2 - has languages(English, Kiswahili or Kenya Sign Language) and it's grading rule is ' Pick Best 1'
Group 3 - has all the other subjects that are done in your school. It's grading rule is ' Pick Best 5'. This tells the system to pick the best 5 subjects which haven't been considered including the extra language subject in 'Group 2'

That's it. The next exam you analyze with Sematime Academics will apply the new subject grouping and grading rules. If you wish to apply these changes to already existing exam, just unpublish then republish.
